In this blog entry, me and my learning partner, Eloisa created the post pandemic barangay through the use of floorplan creator and canva. Firstly, we planned the facilities that we will put in our blueprint, then we layout it in the said website.
Which necessities do these spaces respond to?
In designing this blueprint, we consider that there is enough space for each facility or establishment to ensure limited interaction of residents.Both sides of the barangay have a parking lot and a tricycle terminal at the entrance - I believe that not everyone owns a car, so we decided to put a tricycle terminal, which is more convenient and cost-effective for the residents. It can take them back home or to destinations they choose to go. The barangay hall is located just in front of the entrance, a place where they can inquire or address any problem occurring in the neighborhood. Sanitation facilities can be found on both sides of the barangay hall, ensuring residents' safety. A disinfecting area is located behind it for supplies, shipments and packages entering the community. The pharmacy, barangay court, and community pantry and medical supplies are all located in the neighborhood's central area. The barangay court is centrally positioned to allow easy access that is mostly used for distribution of goods. On the left, people can purchase medications in case of illness. Locals can also receive medical supplies on the right side of the barangay court; it also serves as a food storage facility, delivering food directly to residents. Houses, on the other hand, are clustered around the central area, with ample space between them. The clinic, which provides medical and prescription services, is located nearby. The market is located above it, and it is where residents’ may purchase for their necessities. Beside it, there is a disinfecting area since it is a shared space. The first aid area, which is located near the market, provides healthcare assistance to the public. There is also a section for barangay watchers to ensure that safety and health procedures are followed, as well as to keep the community in order and discipline. Finally, residents who have contracted the illness can be isolated on both sides of the barangay. There is a barrier separating individuals who have contracted the virus from those who have not.
How can these spaces be realized?
People should know first the importance and essence of these spaces for them to be realized. People should understand that these new spaces are for their own good. For example, why would the sanitation area be in every establishment? Well, to ensure public safety. And also, a lot of people gather in market areas so we came up with an idea to put a first aid center, as well as the place where we can reach out to barangay watchers, near that place in case an unexpected event happens or someone needs medical attention. In other words, people should take these spaces seriously
